A month following its resounding victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has clinched victories in the by-elections for Raiganj, Bagda, Ranaghat South, and Maniktala assembly seats. This electoral triumph sends a clear message to the BJP that Mamata Banerjee remains a dominant force in Bengal, where appeals to religious politics and Modi wave have shown limited influence.
The by-elections, held on July 10, saw Krishna Kalyani and Madhuparna Thakur securing wins in Raiganj and Bagda respectively, while Supti Pandey and Mukut Mani Adhikari emerged victorious in Maniktala and Ranaghat South.
In Raiganj, Krishna Kalyani secured a decisive victory with 86,479 votes, defeating BJP's Manas Kumar Ghosh by a margin of 50,077 votes. Similarly, Madhuparna Thakur, daughter of Trinamool's Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Bala Thakur, reclaimed the Bagda seat after eight years, garnering 107,706 votes against BJP's Binay Kumar Biswas.
Meanwhile, Supti Pandey triumphed in Maniktala with a substantial lead of about 62,000 votes over BJP's Kalyan Chaubey, reinforcing TMC's stronghold in the region. In Ranaghat South, Mukut Mani Adhikari defeated BJP's Manoj Kumar Biswas by 39,048 votes.
